Tula, a slave on the Kenepa plantation in Curaçao, becomes increasingly aware of the unequal position his people find themselves in. Fueled by the news that France has abolished slavery in Haiti and that the new Dutch republic is now under French rule, he tries to improve the position of his people. But his peaceful resistance is met with incomprehension from the colonial authorities. His inspiration, however, manages to unite his own people in an unequal struggle for freedom, equality, and brotherhood. Tula - Lost Freedom tells the true story of the leader of the Great Slave Uprising on Curaçao in 1795.
